Does electric mobility mean the end of the combustion engine is near?

No, in the foreseeable future, the energy for driving will be coming from modern combustion engines. Diesel and spark ignition engines still have the potential for fuel consumption reductions of up to 25%.

But the electrification of vehicles significantly complements the efforts to improve efficiency and even today shapes the gradual transition to new efficiency technologies. And conventionally powered vehicles profit from innovations in electric mobility such as the reduction of fuel consumption due to lightweight construction and thermal management. In order to prevail against international competition, Germany has to become a leading market for electric mobility and assert its leading role in scientific research as well as the automotive and supply industry.
